Paws to Protect: A Lovely Tribute
Monday December 15, 2008
I have always had respect for military working dogs, police dogs and the like. However, it was not until I read Paws to Protect - Dogs Saving Lives and Restoring Hope by Sharon Sakson that I truly realized how incredibly amazing these dogs and their handlers are. For generations, dogs have been risking their lives to help people, save human lives and lift the spirits of all around. I learned some interesting facts about dogs in war and public service, and I shed a few tears for the dogs and their handlers.
With a warm and educational voice, Sakson tells many compelling and uplifting stories of heroic dogs. I decided to write a review of Paws to Protect so I could let all of you know about this inspiring book. Whether you are looking for a gift for a dog lover or a gift for yourself, Paws to Protect is worth consideration. Check out my review and think about reading the book. Then, leave some feedback for everyone else!

What you fail to understand is that these military dogs are loved and cared for in the highest manner possible. When a handler “looses” a dog, they morn just as they would another military member. You people out there need to understand that these dogs AND their handlers, yes…our brave men and women of the military…, are put on the front lines and work together each and every day. Please think about that next time you shun “anything military”.
To Diana (and everyone):
Please understand that I had no intention to shun “anything military.” I have had friends and family in the military - some that have lost their lives. I have the utmost respect for the military. I do understand that military dogs are very loved and well-cared for - and honored. That is part of the point of the book and why I found it so moving.
I simply meant that I have little interest in the military GENRE when it comes to books, movies, etc. I have rephrased that so it will not be taken the wrong way again.
I apologize for this misunderstanding.
