Holiday Travel and Your Dog

Monday December 1, 2008
I am sure many of you have big plans to travel this holiday season. What is the plan for your dog? Many of us are lucky enough to have plans that include our dogs. If you have decided to travel with your dog, make sure you plan accordingly to ensure a fun and safe trip.

Sometimes it may be necessary for you to travel without your dog. Though you will miss her, you will definitely rest easier if she is in good hands. While considering your dog's holiday accommodations, you really must plan in advance. If you have not made arrangements by now, you should jump on it before the options become scarce. Looking into kennels? Educate yourself before you board your dog so you know what to look for. Personally, I prefer to hire a pet sitter if my dog cannot come with me - I like that extra-special personal touch!

What are your plans this year? Vote in the poll and share your comments with us!

We think that airlines have raised “petfares” to ridiculous levels. At $175 each way on United, our terrier’s ticket was going to cost more than ours. So we’re going to enjoy a road trip instead, and United loses all of our business. $75 or $100 is somewhat reasonable, but $175? Get real.

I got so mad I compiled a list of all the airlines fees so that the best and worst can be named and shamed!

I think hiring a pet sitter is also the way to go. I have 2 20 mos. old labs and they have never been anywhere but home when we leave. I hire a girl I work with who is 22 years old and still lives with her parents. and goes to school full time. She like to get away from her parents house and she loves my dogs and she plays with them almost like I would. she recieves $30. a day and I stock the frig well.. also her friends are welcome. she is not a partier so I dont have to worry about that.. very responsible and my dogs are comefy in there own home.. its stressful enough to have to leave them.. let alone taking them and droping them at a kennel…
