A Very Thankful Dog

Wednesday November 26, 2008
Gideon an injured white German Shepherd

This amazing dog has something to be thankful for - but so do the people whose lives he has touched! I was moved by the heart wrenching story of Gideon, a young white German Shepherd, who was left for dead in a park in Orange County, CA after apparently being hit by a car. As reported by The Orange County Register, "The skin along the left side of his body was gone, leaving a large, gaping wound that made muscles and bulging ribs visible." The most touching part: he was delighted to see people and wagged his tail, despite his serious injury. Rescue organizations, veterinary workers and dog lovers have reached out to donate their time and money. All have become captivated with Gideon and his wonderful personality. The best news of all is that it looks like Gideon will make a full recovery!

This story reminds us all of the tremendous strength and unconditional love that dogs possess. In fact, the name Gideon means "strength" - an appropriate moniker for this remarkable canine. Gideon serves as an inspiration to all. His story gives me the "warm-fuzzies" and makes me thankful that there are so many wonderful dog lovers out there willing to help out. It also makes me so thankful for my own healthy dog. So, check out Gideon's story for some holiday inspiration.

These stories are so wonderful. I is heart breaking at what some people do to animals but yet there are people who make the difference and save them. I just recently started Working with the humane officers in my area and I absolutly love this job. When you get a situation like this where you have saved the dog, it stays with you in your heart forever. To me this is the best rewarding job ever. At thanksgiving time, I give thanks to all of us people who do this for a living. God bless us all.
