Dog Breed of the Week: Bichon Frise
I chose the Bichon Frise as the dog breed of the week because of the recent popularity of hypoallergenic dog breeds. Plus, this little cotton ball is a bundle of joy! The playful and happy Bichon is a popular dog breed, an affectionate companion and a great dog for kids.
If the Obama family wants a little dog, then the Bichon Frise might be the breed for them. As with most dog breeds, there are plenty of rescue groups - so, they can actually adopt one. Perhaps the breed would be right for you and your family. If the wonderful Bichon is already a member of your family, tell us all about it here! Also, consider submitting a photo of your beloved Bichon for a future gallery.

GREAT info!
Jenna, great points. I share my life with Bailey-the-Bichon and I can speak from experience: she’s a major cuddler!
She has also had two surgeries for bladder stones. And now that she’s 12 years old we’re also keeping an eye on the new cataracts that have appeared.
If the Obama’s want to adopt a Bichon, one of the best places they could go would be the Small Paws Rescue Bichons listed on Petfinder at http://search.petfinder.com/shelterSearch/shelterSearch.cgi?animal=&breed=&age=&size=&specialNeeds=&declawedPets=&children=&status=&id=&internal=&contact=&name=&shelterid=OK10&sort=&preview=1.
BICHONS RULE!!
I love my baby sister, Katie, who also happens to be a Bichon Frise. She is undoubtedly the best dog we have ever had.
MY SWEET BABY BICHON IS 13 YEARS OLD NOW. AND HE IS THE SWEETEST BEST DOG EVER. I RECENTLY WENT THROUGH CHEMO. AND IT WAS AWFUL, BUT MY SWEET LITTLE DOG (PIERRE) NEVER LEFT MY SIDE THE WHOLE TIME. THESE DOGS ARE SOO CUDDLEY AND SMART TOO. I WILL DEFINATLEY BE LOOKING TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE AS SOON AS I CAN.
As far as the Obama’s getting this type of dog… The child really needs to be tested by an allergist. I am allergic to ALL dogs, even the so-called hypoallergenic dogs! They all have saliva, and it contains things I am allergic to in addition to normal dander.

We love our bichon. We adopted him from a rescue agency. His name is Shaggy. I’m allergic to dogs, but I’m not allergic to Shaggy. My mom and I are writing this together, and he heard his name as we are talking about him, and he just ran right over! He even smiles and stands on his hind legs when he is happy. He loves to lay on our laps, especially my dad’s. He likes to play fetch… well, catch. Sometimes he doesn’t bring the ball right back, but that’s ok. I love him anyway.

I have had many dog breeds and the Bichon Frise is very affectionate.
My Bichon lived to 18 years and 3 months and still had that sparkle in his eye til the very end. Yes, he was stubborn (like a true Bichon!) and he was also the greatest companion I could have ever had. Words cannot express how special Bichons are and how lucky you are if you have one in your life.
