October is Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month
I just love October for so many reasons: Fall is here with cooler weather, Halloween is around the corner (my favorite holiday), and it's National Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month! As the proud owner of a shelter dog, it makes me so happy to see the adoption of shelter dogs being promoted this month. It's a great reminder to all of us about just how wonderful shelter dogs are. Here are some reasons:
- Shelters usually have a wide selection of dogs in all shapes, sizes and personalities.
- Many are mixed-breed dogs, and mutts are great!
- You could find a purebred dog.
- There is a chance of finding a dog that is already housebroken and even has other training.
- Most of all - you can save a life!
This October, consider whether or not you are ready for a dog. When you are ready, take a trip to your local animal shelter - you may be surprised at who you find!

One of the ways I’ve been trying to help and celebrate year round in our area is by finding homes for dogs. If I know of someone that doesn’t want their dog anymore, I try to find a good home for the dog before they take it to the humane society. I also try to give them suggestions on how to find their dog a good home on their own. The new owner can get all the dog’s history from the present owner, and feel more confident in taking the dog.
3 years ago, we adopted a tiny little dog not weighing 5 pounds and when he grew up, to our surprise and the SPCA found that he was a pure breed Pharoh Sight Hound. His personally is just loving. My family and I couldnt imagine now how lonely our lives would be if not for him. Do adopt! Some of the best dogs and cats are worth your time.
Four years ago this Christmas we adopted a poor little puppy from a shelter that someone had taped in a box with his brother and tossed in a field. Luckily a kind lady passing by found the box and took the two puppies to a shelter. Rudy is a husky/mix and we love this guy like crazy. He is loving and funny and very loyal. Please check out your shelters.
I have a neighbour across the street who has a beautiful collie/shepherd mix, Maggie from the SDG Humane Society of Canada in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. She is well treated, loved and cared for. So praise God for shelter animals they are precious in God’s sight. I love all my dear pets.
You bet. My pal Satchmo helps guide me through life.
