Snuggle Up!Pug in Pink Dog Bed

Sunday August 24, 2008
Does your dog choose your bed or couch to catch a few winks? I admit it, my dog is allowed on all of my furniture. However, she still has a few dog beds around the house that she loves. Now that she's getting up in age, it's much easier for her to get in and out of her own bed. Plus, it's a place she can call her own.

Does your dog have that special place to relax and retreat? This is important for your dog. Not only does it free up some space for you to rest, it also gives your dog a sense of personal comfort and identity. Plus, there are so many cute and cozy dog bed styles available these days! What is your dog's favorite sleeping spot?

My dog also uses all my furniture plus 2 dog beds to snooze or relax in during the day.

Since she was crate trained as a puppy, she sleeps in her crate overnight which is located in my bedroom. She is happy in her crate when riding in a car.As long as she is safe and comfortable, I am happy.

When my first two were puppies, I wanted to get a cute picture of them sleeping in their new bed basket. I picked them up and placed them in it. I left the room while they were still checking it out. One of them confused the soft towel I put in there with a newspaper, and left a pile on it.

Every time I try to introduce a dog bed, my five furry kids ignore it. They like our bed, couch, comfy chairs, and even the laundry basket. In the yard, they like the lawn chairs.

Hi! I’m Therese, I’m 12, and I love reading your blogs, Jenna! This particular one I wanted to comment on.

I have one dog right now. Her name is Lexy, she’s a Black Russian Terrier (I’d love it if you had a blog on them), and she tore the tendons in both her back legs a few months ago. She’s doing better now, and can now go up the stairs (a BIG accomplishment). Her size keeps her off of couches and beds, but she DOES have a place for her own.

There is a small space behind one of our couches and the three big windows. Lexy will squirm between the two couches to go to her “spot.” We’ve recently made more “entry” space between the couches for her. Her other places are the entryway, the hallway, under the table, and next to my bed. These are her nap spots, but no place is really like Lexy’s Corner.

I have a Pomeranian named Prissy, who had two memory beds that she could use in either the living room or my bedroom. She enjoyed them both, but she also sleeps anywhere she decides too. Then about a year ago I decided that maybe a new puppy would make her less bored so I got a mini sized Chahuahua named Pnut. Pnut decided that the bed that was right beside my bed was the one that was hers. It is huge compared to how tiny she is but Prissy does totaly enjoy having pnut for company, so everything worked out well. Now there are two beds in my room and one in the living room and whoever gets to that bed first gets to lay in it till they decide to move. They act like they love each other like mom and baby. Pnut goes to Prissy to get her face washed after meals and Pnut washes Prissy’s face occasionally so I know they are very happy with each other. they are so cute togather I wouldn’t want to live without either of them.

Thank you so much Therese. Lexy sounds so cute! I will get around to writing about Black Russian Terriers one of these days – they are such beautiful dogs.

And, thanks to everyone for posting – I really enjoy hearing what you all have to say!

I have 2 dogs a yorkie and a cairn terrier that both sleep with me at night. They are the most precious little girls in my life. But I’m thinking of marrying again and am not sure my new husband will take to the dogs sleeping with us. Is there a way I can get the girls to sleep in their own beds at night or is it a loosing battle now that they are older and have slepted with me since they were puppys? Any ideas for me ?

My dogs had their own beds but always preferred the couch or the beds. All the dogs w/ the exception of Blackey slept near their humans. Blackey would spend sometime in my parents room and then he would come by me and then he would eventually end up in the living room.

My dog has 3 dog beds. He loves and uses them all.

One bed is in our bedroom and is his night time bed. One bed is in the living area for family time. The other bed is in the basement rec room. When my kids have a sleepover, he is smack in the middle of all the kids – on his own comfy dog bed.

To me, my bed is the most important piece of furniture I own. I know my dog feels the same way about his beds.

I have a Maltese named Dogzilla.
Dogzilla has more than one dog bed.
One of his dog beds has gone bad, so we bought him a new one. He hated the new bed! Not wanting to buy him another bed, we threw him a old pillow off the sofa unto the floor. He loves the pillow! But instead of buying a new pillow for the sofa, I’m using his new dog bed. It makes for a very comfortable pillow! I’m happy, and Dogzilla is very happy!
The pillow from the sofa, smells like his people.

Our chihuahua Ollie loves to sleep period…. sofa in the living room, our bed, sofa in the bedroom, floor cushion in our son’s room and on a little rise in the ground in our back yard when the sun is just warming up at about 8:30 am…. that’s Ollie – he’s a snoozer – but we love him.

(14) Sandi says:

Helen: My dogs used to sleep with me too. Finally I decided I needed some decent sleep, so I put their beds outside the bedroom door in the hallway. I let them lay with me for a while, then made them “go to bed”. I put them in the hallway and shut the bedroom door. I was lucky, they didn’t cry. After only 5 days, they were comfortable enough to go to their beds on their own!
