Give Your Dog a Website!

Wednesday July 9, 2008
Laptop Computer Dog Website My beloved dog ran off many years ago, and I was absolutely devastated. Luckily, I got her back -- and I am eternally grateful to the kind soul who found her. I also learned a few things from that experience, and since then I have been very cautious. Thinking back, I wonder what would have happened if my dog had special needs or a health condition that would have been important for her rescuer to know.

Dave Alexander, the About.com guide to Men's Hair came up with a great idea. He created a website for his deaf Great Dane, Dixie. If the worst happens and Dixie becomes lost, anyone who finds her can visit her website. The site is on her collar ID tag and contains special information, instructions, and contact information for her owners. In today's wired age, nearly everyone has internet access. What a great way to have your lost dog returned safely to you in record time? Learn more from Dave about creating a website for your own dog!

It’s great to have all key data on a website, including recent pictures. It’s also great to know that there are motivated pet people willing to help find a pet that goes missing through the PetALERTZ program. The service is free and creates a Neighborhood Watch for pets within your community – you can sign up at http://mypetstreet.com.

Loosing a pet is a terrible experience. I thought I should take the advice in this author’s blog and create a webpage for my dog. I used the site in Connie’s comment (mypetstreet.com) and it is pretty cool. You can go on there and create a page with pictures for your pet with only a few clicks. If the pet gets lost, you can report it to them online, and an email goes out to members around your area with an automatically generated lost pet poster. You can also post updates and sightings as well. There are blogs and articles there as well if you want to kill time. Thanks for the link connie!

Mypetstreet.com is fabulous place to get information in their forums and very helpful to people who have either lost a pet and are trying to recover it, or trying to prevent a lost pet situation from occurring. Also, you can build a lovely community site for your pet and yourself and find dog parks and all of that on the site.
