Memorial Day -- For Dogs, Too?
Memorial Day is right around the corner, but before you pack your bags and plan your picnics, take a moment to remember the brave men and women who have lost their lives serving the United States of America. Then, take a moment to honor the dogs who serve the country, too.
What does Memorial Day have to do with dogs? Well, I am first reminded of the courageous military working dogs serving the United States government. Another noble canine feat: dogs helping those who have served our country. Consider the Dog Tags program, which places trained service dogs with injured veterans. These dogs are doing their part to honor the injured soldiers returning from military service by helping them get accustomed to civilian life again, despite disabilities.
Remember why we observe Memorial Day and thank a veteran (or a service dog). Enjoy your weekend and stay safe!Photo William Thomas Cain/Stringer / Getty Images

Thanks!
As both a veteran and an animal rescuer, I really appreciate your article!
Be Blessed.
Here in Las Vegas we have a “doggie park” dedicated to the dogs that served in the military etc.

Hi webmaster!
Interesting facts.I have bookmarked this site. stephanazs
Little known fact….the A.S.P.C.A. is trying to collect donations to bring home the dogs and cats from the Iraqi War who have adopted our Service Men and Women. These animals have freely donated unconditional love in an area where there is very little love. It costs $2,000 to bring each beloved pet to the U.S. Quite a few of their beloved four-legged brothers and sisters have come home but there are still a lot of them still waiting to come to their new country and be reunited with their Vets. The program is called Bagdad Pups for those who find yourself touched by this story. There isn’t any donation too small! Thank you!
